Type using 5 keys

The dotsies alphabet can be used to type, by tapping the dot combinations with your fingers. It requires only one hand. The highest dot (a) is associated with your pinky and the 2nd dot (b) is associated with your ring finger, etc. The lowest dot (e) is associated with your thumb.

On this page we simulate this using the number keys on the top row of a normal keyboard, where each finger never moves off of a dedicated number key (your middle finger never moves off of the "3" key, etc.). Position your left hand's fingers on keys 1 through 5. Make your fingers press combinations.

Here's the alphabet for reference while typing:

abcdefghijklmno
abcdefghijklmno
pqrstuvwxyz
pqrstuvwxyz

Typing faster
Keys 0, 9, 8, 7 and 6 are mirrors of keys 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. So, you can use your right hand to type as well. To type faster, alternate between typing letters with your left hand and right hand. You can optionally use the space bar instead of the 5 key and the B key instead of the 6 key, for comfort.

Capital letters
Press and hold down 0 while you type a letter. Or, press 1 for a second and then type a letter.

Punctuation
Press and hold down 8 while you type a letter. Or, press 3 for a second and then type a letter.

With 2-handed modifiers, be sure to not release the modifier hand until after you've released the other hand.
